How Wisby Successfully Entered 4 New Countries in 6 Months

How Wisby Successfully Entered 4 New Countries in 6 Months

Approaching the challenge

Wisby are a label printing startup set on revolutionising the way breweries and wineries label their bottles, cans, and jars. They operate in a somewhat old-fashioned industry, where digital innovation is slow to set in. This is because big brands are slow to implement new technology. Wisby are agile and determined to change this.

They reached out to us to help them:

  • Start profitably exporting to Scandinavia, Central Europe, and Poland.
  • Do market research and run product-market tests.
  • Manage paid ads campaigns in multiple languages.
  • Help localise ad copy and creative.
  • Get high-ticket B2B partnerships with established breweries & wineries.

Our strategy behind the growth

This was a very complex task, as we had to work with around 10 different countries at the same time. It was imperative that we filter out the best export markets, and do it for as little budget as possible. Another thing to keep in mid was website localisation for protectionistic markets (Germany, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, etc.).

We decided to run a 2-week test to see which countries were open to using the service in English, as opposed to their native language. Using Google Tag Manager, we added a trigger to measure when someone would click on the language option, and when they would engage with the website without wanting to change the language setting. They were able to select other languages, but the site would still be in English. It was a short test to se if there’s a need for a localised website or not.

Turns out most businesses were okay with using the site in English, and we didn’t have to translate the site for any of our top 4 markets.

Next thing was to create a high value offer to get businesses to swap their current supplier out for Wisby. We did extensive research to map out key pain points, main reasons why the businesses change providers, map potential supplier collaborations, and write down what the breweries & wineries found exceptionally useful to have in a supplier.

Our pitch was built around this, and we offered:

  • Free shipping for first x number of orders.
  • First order is free of cost with free shipping (no risk for the business whatsoever).
  • Super fast delivery.
  • Premium quality printing with latest printing technology.
  • Easy-to-use ordering environment that lets anyone insert (or design) the label design.

Our target audience picked up on this offer very quickly, and feedback confirmed we were doing the right thing. Business owners felt like there was finally someone on the market who understood them, and offered the right solution for their day-to-day worries.

We were highly successful in Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, and Denmark. Combined, these markets offer a multi-million € opportunity to generate monthly recurring revenue for Wisby.
